Design for Six Sigma

Build Within Spec Everytime

Product Overview

Sigmund ABA enables engineers to evaluate, optimize and validate assembly build quality, relative to piece part tolerance and assembly process variation early in the development phase before design solidification and hard tooling procurement. Sigmund ABA prevents costly tweaking delays at ramp-up as well as long-term variation problems.

Sigmund ABA allows engineers to build a large number of virtual assemblies for evaluation with respect to predefined build objectives. It emulates manufacturing process variation following the ASME Y14.5M-1994 GD&T standards as well as assembly process variations such as clamping sequence, part orientation, and gravity effects. Sigmund ABA's three-dimensional, parametric, real-time geometry representation and animation capabilities can accelerate an engineer's understanding of the combined effects of component tolerances and assembly variation on a final assembly's quality.
Features
Benefits

  • Standalone product that can work with any CAD system.
  • Software tool for Design for Six Sigma initiative.
  • Has rules based dynamic feature control frames for GD&T.
  • What-if analysis Report to quickly evaluate multiple design concepts to reduce costly and time-consuming extended prototyping.
  • Wide range of statistical distributions.
  • GD&T syntax checker.
  • Automatically interprets the GD&T and applies appropriate algorithm to the models features.
  • Holds features relative to functional Datum structures for appropriate deviation.
  • Has the ability to easily do GD&T Sub-datuming by automatically performing the necessary transformations.
  • Functionally re-assembles the assembly enabling Sigmund to identify Nominal design mistakes and Process mean shifts that CAD systems cannot consider. In many cases these issues plague products throughout their life cycle and are never caught or identified.
  • Can much more effectively consider assembly process variation in the studies. Examples: Can consider the assembly variation caused by: mean shifts caused by gravity, where bolts don’t float in the center of concentric holes as they do on an assembly layout. Variation caused by the sequence of assembly and how parts are assembled relative to each other or an assembly fixture. Variation caused by repeatability and reproducibility of assembly operators. Etc…
  • Can animate virtual assemblies considering piece part variation and assembly variation. The user can visualize how their products will build when they go into production launch several years away relative to proposed designs and processes.
  • Can rotate or do a virtual walk around the animated virtual build and see what is going on in the guts of the assembly.
  • Can cut dynamic sections for viewing animation of hidden components and their associated variation.
  • Can evaluate Thousands of outputs simultaneously.
  • Can create three dimensional point clouds illustrating how a feature actually deviates in three-dimensional space. This is much more intuitive than looking at xyz and ijk data.
  • Tried and tested in real world manufacturing industry.
Sigmund ABA's powerful utilities greatly reduce modeling time and effort, and it's succinct reporting module provides all relevant information in a single-page, easy-to-interpret graphical format. Some of the key benefits of Sigmund ABA are:
  • Easy to use menu-driven modeling capabilities reduce the user's need to perform advanced mathematics or programming.
  • Optimizes design and assembly process, adds precision where needed, and eliminates overly costly designs.
  • Enables companies to increase product quality, reduce production costs, and get their best-in-class products to the market sooner.
  • Significant cost and time savings
  • Reduction in Product Development cycle time
  • Quickly predict % Out of spec, DPPM, Sigma, Cpk, Mean Shift, etc. to evaluate product designs before launch.
  • Identify and prevent defects from occurring.
  • Improve Quality and Reduce huge scrap, rework, retooling, recalls and warranty costs before they are incurred – High Return On Investment from use on just one program.
  • Root Cause Manufacturing Quality fires with built-in Sensitivity report.
  • Identify and Select lower cost manufacturing processes in non-critical areas that will still meet all quality objectives with built-in Cost Savings reports.
  • and much more...
